Reseda luteola, aka Weld or Dyer's Rocket, contains the flavonoid luteolin, which produces bright, sunny shades of yellow. The historical source for yellow in ancient dye practices, weld was also used to create green by overdyeing with blue from woad or indigo (two blue-producing plants). This practice is evident in antique tapestries where trees and grass are now blue; the yellow dye has faded over time, leaving the blue behind.

The weld used to dye these towels was grown in my Cape Cod garden.
